Arles – Provence – Camargue
Von Arles waren wir angenehm überrascht. Es ist eine kleine Stadt, deutlich kleiner als Béziers, aber es hat ein vielfältiges kulturelles Leben und eine deutlich sichtbare alternative Szene und einer schönen, kleinen historischen Altstadt.
Sicherlich bedingt durch die Ecole Nationale Superieure de la Photographie“ und das jährlich stattfindende, über die Landesgrenzen hinaus bekannte Fotofestival „Les Rencontres de la Photographie“.
Super gegessen haben wir im Drum Café im LUMA. Wirklich zu empfehlen. Ein tolle Küche und eine gute Atmosphäre. Das LUMA selbst natürlich auch absolut sehenswert und ein totaler Hingucker, entworfen von Frank Gehry.
Enttäuscht dagegen waren wir von der Küche des L’Arlatan Hotels. Das Haus ist ein echter Hingucker, mit ganz viel Stil und Geschmack eingerichtet und dekoriert. Absolut der Hammer. Das Mittagsmenü dagegen war wirklich etwas langweilig und hatte nichts mit gehobener Küche zu tun. Keine Auswahl nur ein Menü und das für den Preis einfach nicht ausreichend. Kein Vergleich zum Drum Café oder zum Le Lazare in Perpignan, oder zum Chameau Ivre in Béziers.
Arles – Provence – Camargue
We were pleasantly surprised by Arles. It is a small town—significantly smaller than Béziers—yet it boasts a diverse cultural scene and a clearly visible alternative vibe and a beautiful, small, historic old town.
This is undoubtedly due to the *École Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie* and the annual photography festival, *Les Rencontres de la Photographie*, which is renowned far beyond the country’s borders.
We had an excellent meal at the Drum Café at LUMA. Highly recommended—great cuisine and a wonderful atmosphere.
LUMA itself is, of course, absolutely worth a visit and a real eye-catcher, designed by Frank Gehry.
On the other hand, we were disappointed by the food at the L’Arlatan Hotel.
The building is stunning—decorated and furnished with immense style and taste. It is absolutely spectacular.
The lunch menu, however, was rather dull and fell far short of fine dining standards. There was no choice—just a single set menu—which simply didn’t measure up to the price point. It didn’t compare at all to the Drum Café, Le Lazare in Perpignan, or Chameau Ivre in Béziers.
